[edit] History
The band was founded in 1971, but their first longplay, Nowy Wspaniały Świat (New wonderful world), was released in December 1972. It contained such hits as Chodź, Pomaluj Mój Świat (Come and colour my world) or Czerwone Słoneczko (Red little sun) and soon went Platinum. Next album, Wyspa Dzieci (The island of children) became was certified only as Gold, but was popular too, owing to hits like Kołysanka Matki (Mother's lullaby) or the title track. At that time 2 Plus 1 was one of the top Polish gropus. In 1977 they released a concept album - Aktor. It was a sort of tribute for Zbigniew Cybulski, very famous and talented Polish actor. Year 1978 brought the greatest hit of 2 Plus 1, Windą Do Nieba (By lift to heaven) and one year after they released album inspired of Irish folklore - Irlandzki Tancerz (Irish dancer). It received very positive critical response. The same year 1 Plus 1 signed a contract with German label and in 1980 their first English album was released - Easy Come, Easy Go. It was a big success and the title single sold very well in Europe. International carreer didn't last long, because fatal political situation in Poland made travelling abroad very hard. However, 1983 saw a release of Bez Limitu (No limits). It was a turning point for 2+1 - the banded changed the image completely and the music from the new album sounded totally new and fresh, like a connection of pop, electronica and rock. The group did several successful gigs. In 1984 they recorded new single - Wielki Mały Człowiek (Big little man) from the forthcoming 1985 album Video. It was a big hit and the band was still popular owing to following the trends. However, in the second half of the 80's 2 Plus 1 didn't perform much. They recorded next album in 1989 - it was titled Antidotum. The LP was not a success. 2+1 gave up performing for some time. From that time the health of Janusz Kruk got worse and worse. In 1992 he died of heart attack. That was the real end of the group.
[edit] Name
There are many appropriate names of the band. The first used form was Dwa Plus Jeden - on the cover of their debut album Nowy Wspaniały Świat. But the name that was used most often was 2 Plus 1. On the cover of the album Aktor there is also the English version: Two Plus One, and on the Wyspa Dzieci cover one can even see the form Dwa + Jeden. Fans usually use the shortest form - 2+1.
