The 25th annual Golden Raspberry Awards were held on February 26, 2005 at the Ivar Theatre in Hollywood, California to recognize the worst the movie industry had to offer in 2004. Also, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Golden Raspberry Awards, four special categories—Worst Razzie Loser Of Our First 25 Years, Worst "Comedy" Of Our First 25 Years, Worst "Drama" Of Our First 25 Years, and Worst "Musical" Of Our First 25 Years—were added.
This edition of the Razzies was the first to give a nomination to a movie that wasn't a critical or financial bomb: Fahrenheit 9/11. It received nominations not because of the poor quality of the movie itself, but because of political figures' mishandling of the 9/11 attacks and the War in Iraq, as depicted in the film.
Leading the pack was a tie between the late summer film Catwoman and Fahrenheit 9/11, each of which "won" four Razzies. The film with the most nominations was also Catwoman, which was nominated for seven Razzies, followed by Alexander with six nominations.
This year’s ceremonies were held on February 26, 2005 at the historic Ivar Theatre in Hollywood. The theater was rented using proceeds from an auction of Ben Affleck's destroyed prize from the previous year, which Affleck smashed during an appearance on Larry King Live.
Halle Berry and Catwoman screenwriter Michael Ferris collected their awards in person, a departure for the awards. Berry was quoted as saying "If you aren't able to be a good loser you're not able to be a good winner." [1] Berry mocked her 2002 Oscar acceptance speech, acting tearful and saying "I never thought this would happen to me." She then responded to some critics but holding up her Oscar and saying "They can't take it away, my name's on it!" They are reportedly the first to do so since the 2001 awards, when Tom Green was on hand to receive five Razzies for Freddy Got Fingered.
