[edit] Ball State Uncited Comment
Your vandalism to the Wikipedia entry for Ball State University have been noted. Your continued vandalism will result in the barring of your Wikipedia usage. Thanks. chris4682 Sept. 2007
I am writing to politely disagree with the assertion that my edit to the Ball State University article was vandalism. My father attended Ball State University in the early 1960s; he reported that a common and widely-used nickname for the institution was "Fruit Jar Tech." Please advise. Thank you. 24.17.171.84 22:37, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I don't disagree with your argument in its entirety, because I can't substantiate if it is true or not. Your comment was removed because it was an uncited comment that appeared to be vandalism due to the nature of the nickname. I just happened to see it before someone else did. In other words it was gonna be deleted at some point due to the fact that the name was uncited. Rewrite it with a proper citation (your father doesn't work). Remember this is an encyclopedia and also all trivia section comments need to be cited. Also trivia sections are slowly being eradicated on Wikipedia, more than likely this trivia section will not last much longer in its present form. Thanks for your reply. chris4682 7:57PM 9 Sept 07
As requested, I have provided a citation from Ball State's alumni magazine. I might also point out that as the Ball State University article currently contains information about "the hot dog man" and his most popular offerings on campus, proper citation of a campus nickname--even a potentially demeaning one--doesn't seem wholly out of place in the article. 24.17.171.84 04:06, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Great. As exampled by you (Hot Dog Man) there are numerous problems with the Ball State page (as with others) and your addition now does not fall into that category! As with most watchers of the Ball State page I can only do so much. Thanks. In addition, have you thought about creating a username for Wikipedia? chris4682 10-09-07

[edit] Welcome
Welcome
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
Here are some other hints and tips:
- I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
- When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.
If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian.--Riurik(discuss) 20:11, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Online talker
Thanks for adding the category online talkers. It was good to have a category. I wonder if there also should be a list. Actually I see it now. There is a list on talker. I added the 2 extra ones from the Category online talker which you made.
