James Bond

Minor characters

I just reverted it. The same was done at Thunderball. Theres no need to link them. We need to think up a plan or something how to deal with this. Almost everyday I find a Bond character stub page that is written horribly. I don't know where we would put them. I don't want to add bios to the film pages because I think it'd be too much (Thunderball being our ideal-looking article is maxxed). A while back someone tried to group all the characters from Die Another Day on a page called "List of characters from Die Another Day" or something to that effect, which I didn't think was bad, but it wound up on VFD (when it was called that) and it was deleted - ironically those characters (Frost, Jinx etc) then got their own article and nothing was ever said. I don't know. K1Bond007 19:42, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Something like this: List of minor Star Wars villains? We could do "List of minor James Bond allies" and "List of minor James Bond villains" --? K1Bond007 20:07, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Book images

I have no idea what to do here. There are tons of reprints and cover designs for the James Bond novels so I think we need to draw a line somewhere. I thought we were pushing it with two (1 old, 1 new). Do you think we should remove these and add them to IFD or something? K1Bond007 06:50, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Lets just go ahead and remove the new images added by the anon then - we don't need 3. The "Bond 5" thing is fan speculation and incredibly false. Any list that includes Rikki Lee Travolta about being Bond is a joke. None of those were ever offered or in the "final" of anything. The producers claim they never offered it to anyone but Craig and considering Broccoli apparently chose him back in March this is probably the truth. K1Bond007 17:25, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Well, I guess I'm kinda confused on which ones we're keeping now. Revert to how it was prior to the anon (the 2000+ reprints and the ones you scanned)? Or are we keeping the 2000 reprints and removing the ones you scanned and leaving the ones the anon added? Right now I'm just gonna revert. You can sort out which older image you want to keep. I'd rather have the first edition and the "latest edition", but it might be hard finding good scans of first editions. Maybe ArtOfJamesBond (when it comes back) will have some. K1Bond007 22:19, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Miss Moneypenny

Whoever said The Moneypenny Diaries was canonical? Official, yes, but canon? I don't think so especially since the Diaries are a spinoff. What about James Bond Jr. - the official book or the official TV series? All of a sudden because they're official they're canonical? Did you know that in the Moneypenny Diaries, James Bond isn't 007's real name? I totally disagree with changing the articles so much as to list her name as Jane. It's universally known as Miss Moneypenny. How it is now, is fine. K1Bond007 21:50, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Bond infobox

Someone decided that James Bond doesn't deserve an infobox for itself (the films) and put it up on TFD. I realise it has some of the same fields as the Movie infobox, but there are many advantages to the infobox tailored to just James Bond (ex. The theme, what film comes next, who played Bond - rather than an ensemble list of the cast etc etc.). See Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. K1Bond007 23:26, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Thunderball and TLD comic

No, it's right. The Living Daylights (the short story - not the comic strip) was given to the Times to publish (it was published in Argosy, which is owned by the Times). Beaverbrook took that personally I guess and he suspended his deal with Fleming. Ultimately it was worked out and Beaverbrook was able to publish a strip based on TLD in '66. My source on this was The Art of James Bond which is probably the best source available on the net (when it was up, I guess it's down right now). There might be something on this in the Titan Books Goldfinger collection - I don't know though. Beaverbrook probably had prior knowledge. Either it was 1) already written 2) knew Fleming was writing it for the Times or 3) Knew Fleming was going to write a story for the times. - I don't know which, if any, but I'd say it's likely he had prior knowledge somehow. Feel free to dig into why else Thunderball was cancelled. K1Bond007 23:47, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

The strip had been cancelled by the newspaper's owner Lord Beaverbrook, in a fit of rage over Ian Fleming the day before had supported the rival newspaper the Sunday Times, by allowing them to print his new James Bond short story, "The Living Daylights", in the premiere issue of their new colour magazine. Besides running the Bond strip, the Daily Express had previously serialised the earlier Bond novels, so for Ian Fleming not to so much as give them an option on printing a new James Bond story was seen as an insult.
From [1] which is also a pretty good site. K1Bond007 23:55, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

They're probably right. It says in the June 1962 issue. Now if printing a magazine is anything like the magazines I get, that means people were reading the story in May 1962 (it's always dated the next month), which means The Times had it in April 1962. That's only a 2 month span maybe even shorter. K1Bond007 00:08, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Music

Well, some anon continues to add information on the music to James Bond. I reverted it once or twice, but for some reason Wikipedia didn't catch "edit conflicts" and I ended up missing certain parts. I removed it, but he continues to add it. Unfortunately I don't want to push reverting the guy because if someone looks it might be seen as breaking 3RR. It depends on how you view a couple of those. Whattya gonna do :) K1Bond007 04:35, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Which is why I left a note about the music on the anon's user page. It appears he/she/it ignored it though. K1Bond007 04:39, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Didn't see it, rather. Came to my user page claiming I'm dominating the James Bond article. Whattya gonna do. :( K1Bond007 05:01, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Well the admin part doesn't save me here. His edits were made with good intent (thus not vandalism) and depending on how you look at it, I couldn't exactly warn him of 3RR. Thought about semi-protecting the page (a new feature that allows admins to protect the page from anons or new users, but everyone else is ok), but that's a no-no :( Apparently this has worked itself out though. K1Bond007 05:14, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Casino Royale

Whoa. :) I just fixed the page histories for the 2006 film. I don't know if you remember, but a long time ago someone copyied and pasted the original James Bond 21 that we had going to Casino Royale (2006 movie). I forgot all about it, but just now decided to fix it. The problem with fixing it is that you have to delete the current page (which is scary to me even though you can undelete)... well after I got the original page moved there were like 537 deleted edits that I had to restore, however, there isn't a "select all" so I had to manually click all of them. What a bitch. Then after I got done I hit the glitch (which I forgot all about) in which it doesn't show you like the most recent edits - in fact the latest was July 2005 so I had to fix that... LOL I thought I had destroyed the page for a second there :) Just telling you in case you saw it get deleted and all that crazy crap that just happened. K1Bond007 07:07, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I never had any favorites for the roles. I don't disagree with any of choices, but I was kind of surprised by Wright as Felix and the guy chosen to be Mathis (he's Italian), but I don't really have a problem with it. I'm just happy both are in it. Mathis is one of my favorites for seriously unknown reasons. I'm also just glad they announced somebody, although that has caused a serious amount of work for myself (having to cleanup a ton of articles etc). Not all that fun. K1Bond007 06:54, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

James Bond article

I just made a small structure change. My hope is that if someone comes along who doesn't know a thing about Bond, they'll be able to read this without going crazy. There are so many "incarnations" of James Bond (specifically literary vs film) that it was clouding the opening overview. Everytime a statement was made about Bond there was another that followed it contradicting it or "an exception to the rule." I tried to make more sense of it all and better organise it. I'm planning on rewriting or expanding the new "Ian Fleming's inspiration" section that I made as a result of the edit. Some of it I feel is improperly written (confusing, too much for an overview etc). After that perhaps I'll work on the franchise and then the character's bio - the latter I dread—it is horrible and a complete hodgepodge that does not flow at all. There are some other changes I've been thinking of making for quite some time, but I don't want to make too many too quick. One would possibly deal with breaking up "the franchise" and renaming the section as "cultural impact" - information on the film series or the novel series would then get moved to the film and novel sections respectfully. Just an idea. We'll see. K1Bond007 22:40, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Re. I knew about Amis wanting to write a follow up, but I had heard he was talked out of it. It would appear that GP just didn't give him the opportunity or something. Interesting anyway. It surprises me that there really isn't any history for the James Bond novels beyond Fleming anywhere. Everytime I know book comes out I always think how great it would be for it to do indepth research on post-Fleming - Benson, but it never does. Sticks to Fleming. This has been done to death too. Only Benson's Bedside Companion to my knowledge actually covers some post-Fleming works, but theres not much there considering it was first published in 1984. I don't think the revision in '88 added much to it in terms of the novels either. K1Bond007 05:35, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Acknowledging it as "Golden Gun" here and there is ok (sparingly), acknowledging it as "Man with the Golden Gun" sets a bad precedent for an encyclopedia IMHO. K1Bond007 05:38, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Biography

As I stated earlier, the biography is ridiculously hard to cleanup and edit because it was just a hodgepodge of events that weren't really in any sort of frame of time. I went through it and did a pretty massive change of it, but I didn't save it because I thought it may be a bit controversial. One reason is that I broke it up into 4 subsections (titled from the top of my head). Take a look, tell me what you think: User:K1Bond007/Temp (note it is also unfinished as you'll see, which is another reason why I didn't save). I expanded on it a lot and tried to make more sense of some of the contradictions or exceptions to 'the rule'. Even after reading the changes and additions I made, the biography is actually quite slim. For example, it just drops the entire Blofeld is Bond's archnemesis deal on the lap of the reader. I still maintain that we should probably just move this entire bio to it's own page where it can be expanded in greater detail similar to Dr. Who and Harry Potter. K1Bond007 06:55, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Infobox

For the infobox, it should be the original (theatrical/main) distributor only. For Never Say Never Again, it is Warner Bros. That's how it should be. The distributor field comes from the film infobox, so I don't think removing it is really an option. K1Bond007 17:06, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

On the subject of the table at James Bond. Do you think I should add worldwide admission numbers? I find the number more telling of a figure than the actual U.S. or World box office for the success of the film. See User:K1Bond007/Temp2. I have 3 versions there (current version, world gross & world admissions, all of the above). Worth adding? K1Bond007 20:40, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Yeah. I can also tell you their budget, how much they spent on marketing, U.S. and worldwide rentals sales, and the net income for the studio for each film (including unofficial ones). The last stat is interesting. Moonraker made the most while The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day did the worse - actually the studio lost money on TWINE (the only one). I can send you the stats through email sometime if you want. Theres other interesting stats like ranking the actors as Bond based on this information (usually a battle for the top spot between Connery and Moore with Brosnan and Niven battling for last place). Interesting stuff anyway. K1Bond007 22:13, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Young Bond

Most of them are referenced where Higson discusses them and has stated several times that he is contracted to write 5. Only the first one was delayed. The second one was on time. I don't know what you're talking about there. If you want to remove January from the listing, that's fine, but I'm pretty sure they're aiming for a January release for all of them. The next one is set for January. (All UK, btw). K1Bond007 19:25, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Response re: TownPump discussion

Hi two things. One anyone should be allowed to edit pages here, thats what makes wikis great. Don't let vandals get to you, they are just being dumb. The good guys outnumber the bad. Secondly you mentioned in a talk article about other encyclopedias not being threatened by wiki, and they arent for one reason, which imo is the only problem with wikipedia: The fact that facts aren't verifible usually, and there are no offical editors. Wikipedia is currently not accepted as a encyclopedia since it is open to edits.

infobox...

sounds like a good idea. You would have to be very strict with the movies, like only the Universal horror classics, for example. Not every Dracula movie. Of course, I'm not sure everyone would like it. Then again, I saw something like it for the Care Bears and it still exists. Don't ask me why I was looking at THAT entry.... Steve-O 13:17, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

I was bored last night and did it. You think we should add Creature from the Black Lagoon. Most of the films, like the Mummy, aren't in Wiki yet. Steve-O 03:36, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
I was going to add Creature and Invisible Man, but most movies don't exist yet, so the box would be huge and the pages would be non-existant or small stubs. I was going to wait until some horror fan wrote the pages first. Are you interested in making them? I see there is a page for Abbot and Costello meets the Invisible Man, though.Steve-O 05:12, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
That's fine. I'll adjust the box (or you're more then welcome to) when more pages are made..Steve-O

Block of 24.71.223.140

Hi Alex, I just unblocked 24.71.223.140 per your request. Under the current Wikimedia software, there is no way to isolate legitimate editors using the same IP previously used by a vandal and blocked. There have been many requests to add such a feature, but nothing was done about it. Please keep in mind that if you find yourself blocked as a result of collateral damage, you are perfectly allowed to unblock yourself, as the block was not intended against you. As courtesy, you should probably inform the admin who blocked that IP, but there is no need to wait for them to unblock you in such a case. If the block is against your username, that's a different story, of course.

No one is supposed to put a permaban on a dynamic IP; I think admins know that. This specific block I put was for only 3 hours, but even that can be annoying when you find yourself blocked at no fault of your own. Sorry about the hassle! Owen× 22:09, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

DEATH METAL

Demilich, Atheist and Necrovore are critical bands for Death Metal, far moreso than Cannibal Corpse and Nile. Please don't meddle in affairs which you have a marginal knowledge of.

Those people who revert my edits in Death Metal have yet to reply to the issues I raised in the discussion page for that article. A quick glance at their user pages reveals that they are not even fans of the genre and most likely not that knowledgeable about its roots or contributors to its evolution.156.34.212.21 01:51, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I got the "You have new messages" message, but not for your last one, probably because my IP address has changed. Incidentally, when I'm replying to a message left in my talk page, should I do it on my own talk page or in the talk page of the user who sent me the message? 156.34.218.183 05:10, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Block of 198.234.216.248

From the "great minds think alike" department, you may wish to check that your 2-week block of 198.234.216.248 wasn't cancelled out by my more conservative 3-hour block. Looks like we did the blocks at the same time and I'm not sure what happens when that occurs. Cheers! 23skidoo 17:27, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up; the best thing to do when there is a block collision is to temporarily unblock and reapply the intended block. I'm not sure which block takes precedent, the shortest one of the last one to be applied. Best regards, Hall Monitor 17:30, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Judy

Hello. I merged the edit histories (hit the history tab to see). Although you did nothing wrong, you simply cut-and-pasted content from an older article into a newer article - although this looks the same intitially, it destroyed the article's edit history (and thus made it impossible for readers to track who wrote what and when they wrote it). It is Wikipedia policy to keep edit histories intact as much as possible, especially when merging articles - this allows us to track down sources of information from the original contributor when needed. Hope that clears up what I did and why I did it. - Davodd 18:56, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Merging edit histories

Oops! I did the wrong one... Try: Wikipedia:How to fix cut and paste moves. Sorry. But here is the simple 5-step way:

You use admin privs.

  1. You have GOOD NAME ARTICLE and BAD NAME ARTICLE - you have moved the content of BAD NAME into GOOD NAME - but want to get the history to move too.
  2. You delete GOOD NAME .. yep - delete it - just give it an explainer of "temp delete for history merge" or something.
  3. You move BAD NAME to the GOOD NAME article.
  4. You to go to the history tab and restore all the past articles.
  5. You then open up the last "good" version of the merged article, edit it and then re-save it without any changes - I usually comment that it is an "end history merge" move. Viola - a merged article history.

Audrey Hepburn

On Dec 2 you made an edit to Audrey Hepburn which included a note regarding the 1967 Oscars.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Audrey_Hepburn&diff=29814066&oldid=29760146

However, Hepburn was nominated for Wait Until Dark. My Fair Lady was in 1964, so it couldn't have been the follow year's Oscar's. Also, the dubbing was unrelated to the 1967 awards. If you look at the note in the Awards section, it mentions My Fair Lady and Wait Until Dark. Maybe you could recheck your sources on the Andrews story. Ken6en 06:52, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply...I got the facts mixed up the first time, but the story is still odd. A. Hepburn wasn't nominated in '64 so she wasn't "in direct competition" with Andrews. She lost in direct competition with K. Hepburn in '67...could that be the source of the story? In any case something's wrong so I removed the story until someone gets it figured out. Blocked IP

My IP has been blocked because another user has been commiting vandalism. I'm hoping you can fix this problem.

Friends of Doctor Who article deleted= censureship!

I will never understand why Wikipedia allows people like yourself to censure factual articles or pre-judge articles about subjects. You must get a lot of pleasure out of acting like a Gestapo man in illiminating facts from the public's knowledge here. Wikipedia, by allowing this capricious action like these, proves that althought Wiki says it's a place for people to share facts with others...the reality is more Gestapo like and very darkly slanted against Internet free speech. My compliments to the faux intellectual who thinks he knows it all enough to delete knowledge for others...I hope you enjoy your silly ignorance!

I was wondering why you removed the section on the new area in talks to being developed in Strathcona County? If you read the Edmonton Journal articles on the ring road it talks about the project in detail.

My IP has been blocked.

Hello there! I have been registered for about 2 days now, edited a couple of articles, successfully and today found that I have been blocked.

had my actions been deemed vandalism, I would be able to make a case for myself, but The reason given was

Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Calcfc77". The reason given for Calcfc77's block is: "vandalism".

I act as a moderator on a few forums, and understand the situation. I was blocked by 'Curps' and understand why he took the actions he did. However, I am not Calcfc77, in fact I've never heard of him/her, nor have I committed acts of Vandalism on this encyclopaedia.

I use AOL *doges tomatos* and believe that may be the reason for a confused IP (not sure why but AOL has that effect).

Anyway It'd be great if you could sort this out for me, perhaps verify im not the previous vandal?

Thanks for your time! Additives Free.

"An anonymous writer Wednesday trashed Syracuse on the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, the same day The Post-Standard published an article pointing out 25 errors in the Syracuse entry on Wikipedia.

"Syracuse is an American city in Central New York. It is known for being quite boring and bland. A city which boasts to have it all, but in reality has nothing," read Wikipedia's entry on the city Wednesday night. The entry also called the state fair "an otherwise overrated carnival." Modesty stub sorting

On a related note, back on Dec. 30 you placed My Name is Modesty as a crime film stub. This isn't really accurate because the film was based upon a comic strip about a spy. Do you know if there is a film stub for comic book-based films or spy films?

There isn't a stub for either of those, although I'm lobbying for an action stub which I think would cover the spy film genre. IMDb says that it's in the crime genre which I think is applicable because Modesty is a former criminal. More accurate than the dinosaur "drama-stub" category. Kerowyn 01:05, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Umm, there isn't an action stub. I'm hoping they'll create one, but until then I think this is the next best thing. Kerowyn 01:09, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Image:SheenaEaston.jpg

Hi Alex. I think that the reason why this was tagged as "no source" is that it's not clear where exactly you got the source. It does say EMI records, but the source needs to be more specific. Did you get the image from a website? If so, add the URL to the image page, then other editors can go to that site and confirm that it does indeed come from a press kit or similar. If you scanned a photograph which EMI sent out as part of a hard-copy press kit, explain that this is the case and provide the postal address or e-mail address of the press office. If you got the image in some other way, let me know and I'll see if I can come up with any suggestions! Regards, CLW 08:48, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Alex. Unfortunately, happening to have it on your computer and having seen it in magazines in the 1980s isn't sufficient source attribution so I'll reapply the tag. If you're unable to cite a specific source, may I suggest that one solution would be to locate another image for which you can cite a source (an online source is ideal, as it's easy to check) and which you can either confirm to be a press image or justify using under fair use. Doctor Who 1996 poster

The poster is a Fox promotional item, sent to TV stations for their own promotional purposes, usually for newspaper or TV Guide advertisements - I found it in my archives recently from the time I worked at Fox, back when the movie aired. This is NOT a fan-produced item. The lack of identifying marks comes from the fact that this image was designed to be modified by the individual stations. It was not downloaded from anywhere - I scanned it myself from the original this morning. TheRealFennShysa 18:45, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm editing the wikipedia page on Mono, but the user Miguel.de.Icaza is always attacking me. I think he cannot be objective at all. Can you anything with his attempts to revert the page? As it sounds the same as Bill Gates would edit the wikipedia page on Windows. My contact email: is Kirill.Kononenko@gmail.com

Re: Show Boat

Hi 23skidoo. Thanks for bringing up that piece of information, it is very valuable. Since you brought it up, it figures that you should be able to add the section, if you want to. So in regards to your question about where would be appropriate, I think that the best place would be to add another section titled "1951 film version" in between what is now Revisions and Cancellations and 1994 Revival. Somewhere in the text you might want to include a wikilink to Show Boat (film)#1951 Version. Thanks. Yid613 02:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

It's pretty stupid. I don't really want to get into it. I think it's pretty sad that Wikipedia wasn't really allowed to debate it really. It just exists because one person said so. K1Bond007 20:38, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

StarTrek

My mind is whirling and I can't seem to catch the thoughts, but I am thinking about a Star Trek episode where I think it is the son of the base commander (was it in the space station series?) who is writing a novel and has a muse...and there is a really great quote in that episode...long...about writing...I know I wrote it down at the time, I just thought about it. Sorry to be so vague. If you have the slightest idea what I am talking about you can contact me at coloursandlight@yahoo.ca. I am Cami. Thanks.

I would seriously like to know why the entry for feminem.com was deleted. I basically know it was because of that biased person that has an administrator title. As far as I'm concerned he's no administrator. I'm not an Eminem hater or an ICP lover. It makes me mad when I have made two or 3 donations to this site and these are the people you guys put in charge of it? If I would have known people like InShanee would be an administrator I would have never gave this site ONE dollar. This proves to me that there are probably more biased admins out there. This atricle did not break any laws of wikipedia. As far as I'm concerned InShanee should get his admin. status taken away.. he is unfit for that role in such a large community of people.

40th Canadian federal election

You say:

I can't believe this article is being supported. If that's the case maybe someone should create articles for the 41st, 42nd, 43rd, 44th ... we have to draw the line somewhere!

I would point out my explanation, which I added after your comment, which you may find helpful:

The 39th Parliament will be led by the smallest minority government ever in Canada, barely 40% of the seats, and all of the previous Conservative minorities (all four of them) lasted less than a year (1926 - a matter of days, but a special case; 1957-1958 - 9 months; 1962-1963 - 10 monnths; 1979-1980 - 9 months). It behooves us to start this article and track the positioning of the 39th Parliament so that we will have a good article should the 39th Parliament fall as quickly as history suggests it might - Jord 21:49, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
In reply to your reply, the predent already exists - there was an attempt to delete U.S. presidential election, 2008 right after the 2004 election and it was soundly defeated while U.S. presidential election, 2012 was AfDed and deleted. The precedent is, an article on the next election is ok but not on subsequent elections. - Jord 00:07, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

The Wizard of Oz (1939 film)

That "family friendly" or whatever is obviously an ad site with a "Christian" message. If I were you, I would zap it, as it does appear to be mainly to sell stuff. A couple of Quick Questions

Hello, I'm new to wikipedia editing, and I had some questions. Thank you for any help.

I created the "UTSA college of engineering" page found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utsa_college_of_engineering

Is it possible that the title of the article could be changed to "UTSA College of Engineering" instead? I'm having trouble figuring out how to do that.

I'm also having trouble doing direct redirects. How do I make a redirect go directly to the necessary page instead of displaying a page with a link to the article? Thank you very much for your help.

Help needed

Hello! Sorry to bother you.

There is a dispute on the subject Panathinaikos which is greek sport club. Panathinaikos supporters claim that Panathinaikos is the biggest club in Greece which is totally worng and unacceptable. I could make the same claim for Olympiakos since Olympiakos has the most fans in Greece!

When I try to change the phrase "Panathinaikos is the biggest club" to "Panathianikos is one of the biggest" it is being reverted and I am being accused as a vandal...

Furthermore I wrote at the discussion window and nobody answered me.

I made the change twice and they reverted me twice as a vandal so I stopped trying that and ask for your intervention or advice.

Thank you for your time, Patros Panagiotis

Calgary Sun conservative

Not that I disagree with the assertion the Calgary Sun is conservative in outlook, but why on earth would you equate a "wait and see" attitude with explicit support for the government? It seems like common sense to me - and the Sun has given credit where it is due even to the Liberals in the past. I think your comment seems very much POV-oriented and would do better to find a more appropriate example of conservative-bias, if that is your intent. Giving a new government the benefit of the doubt after only a week in office really isn't bias; in fact I think it is simple civic duty. Again, I don't doubt the Sun is conservative leaning; that being the case I think with all due respect it should be easy for you to find a better example. Saints Rock and Roll

Thank you for your contribution to "my" Saints page.

I'd like to change it, though, and it seems best to explain why first so as to avoid seeming arbitrary about it. It's a matter of proportion. Although you only put in one sentence, that one sentence takes up more space than all other listed recordings combined. For the time being, I'd like to expand the reference to artists slightly and merge Haley in with the others. (I would preserve your exact sentence offsite for future reference.) At some later date I might create a subsidiary page, listing artists (as I did for Sports Teams), and then give the full citation for Haley.

Does this scheme appear acceptable to you? Please advise. B00P 05:22, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Admin help

Hi, since you're first on the list of administrators (and I've seen it so many times on the Bond articles), I thought I'd bring this to your attention as I'm rather lost as to what to do. The user Unisouth is uploading various images of buses and adding them to respective articles, claiming to be the copyright owner, when he blatantly is not. Several of his images are coming from [www.busphotos.co.uk] but he is picking up others from elsewhere. I don't know how many he's uploaded, but there's several at least, and I don't quite know how to report it otherwise. This is quite an infringement of copyright, and I had looked through the rules but they seem to be tailored to specific images/articles rather than widespread abuse. Any suggestion on how to report this problem would be helpful, thanks! --Ayrshire--77 22:06, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks! Much appreciated! Been chasing round them all morning adding tags and pointing out where they're lifted from. Seems to be adding them as quick as I can track them though... --Ayrshire--77 09:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Question

Why does it seem like there are thousands of mods on wikipedia? Why would there be a need of so many? Certainly, even a conservative number such as one-hundered or so could do the job. -Damien Vryce 16:40, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Banned from stuff

Hello I wanted to say that i've been accused of things that i didn't do at all. Today or yesterday I was banned from editing anything. The ban thing was me of vandalizing a page of a U.S. Government offcial. Though if you look at my contributions, there is no such thing. If there's anything that you can do for me that would be great, thank you.

about Bill Haley's Candy Kisses

Hi dear! Could you ask if Bill's eldest son is quite sure Bill recorded the o.v. of the said song? My friends from coverinfo.de had already written in their database for a long time that George Morgan firstly recorded it. I don't know what to think of it. Lotta thanks. Stephan KŒNIG 13:30, 24 February 2006 (UTC) In fact, George Morgan was #1 in the Country charts on 30th/04/1949 and the song crossed over #2 in the POP charts. Bill recorded it on 2d.04.1949 (without charting with it) then there are 2 solutions:

  • 1 Morgan recorded the song a few days before Bill and it is quite unknown (I think at the time, it was quite impossible to record a song and see it in a chart the same month);
  • 2 the date of Bill's recording of it is wrong/fake. However, the German specialists at Hydra's Records wrote this date in the booklet and I was able to see at Rocking Country Style that Terry Gordon noted as follows "Bb c&w rev. 1949/Mar.19". Very strange... Stephan KŒNIG 13:57, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Wikifying and bionics

  1. Apostrphies - I am not about to try to remember how many apostrophies I need to bold or italics something. I will just use <b></b> or <i></i> and be done with it. It is sooo much easier to remember.
  2. Lists - Wiki code for lists is almost a straight jacket. Nothing can be done with the lists in wiki code the way that html can be made to jump through hoops.
  3. Tables - see lists.
  4. HTML to me is a warm fuzzy blanket that I can wrap myself in and feel all kinds of cozy. It is a good friend of mine. CSS is the nice fire that keeps the cold away. Wiki code is rigid and cold and gives me the creeps (mostly). Also, wiki code will probably not output valid html. I am a person who runs a page through an html validator until I get it right. The only way I KNOW that the code that I am using here is valid is to write it in HTML.
  5. I can't get wiki code to put things right where I want them. I can with HTML.

Lady Aleena - (can't get a bug out of my sig)

All I ask is that it looks exactly the same after you do whatever to it. HTML was the ONLY way that I could get the layout right. If there is a wikiway...go for it. - LA
After I got done with another project on which I was working, I was going to expand the Bionic series article and contract the other two articles to remove duplicate information. The purpose of the "bridge" page was to give more specificity to the articles on the two separate shows. I discussed this on both shows' talk pages, and got a positive responce from only one person (same person both shows' talk pages). That is why I created the article. I don't see why there should be a problem with two images side by side. I made sure that the section headings were brief enough so it would fit between them.
I spent over an hour on the layout of that page, and I just hope that it wasn't time wasted.
In using HTML, it was my thought that the pages with HTML already coded into them would load faster (I noticed that they do) for dial-up users like myself. Since wikicode has to be translated to HTML anyway, I was hoping to help skip a step.
I don't have the money to do what you suggest regarding starting my own wiki. I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for funding of that maginitude. - LA
I spend only $189.00 a year for my internet service (8 e-mail addys and 10 MBs of web space) and don't usually go to that many sites that really need speed, though you are right that the internet is not friendly to dial-up (modem) users anymore. Cable internet is still too expensive in my area.
Since you know HTML, we could start a trend of HTML use in Wikipedia. It may not be popular, but if enough of us do it and are BOLD about doing it (but doing it quietly without drawing attention to it), we could get non-HTML people to catch onto it. Wouldn't it be great if HTML were the formatting of choice here instead of Wikicode?
Also, how does one make a time stamp in a template that will be used over and over again? I can't see to find any documentation anywhere about it.
LA
Just a thought, do you have any instant messanger programs? It seems that we are on the brink of needing a faster way of communicating than talk pages allow. LA

well, I see that you're trying to explains things to him... you sincerely have all my sympathy.

I kinda have the feeling I'm sticking my nose where I shouldn't but I saw some things that quite afflicted me, like you message "I just noticed that in the talk page to Bill Haley you signed my username to the "Homage"." : I can't believe he still do that... there's no way it can't be blamed en newbism !...since he started participating in fr.wikipedia since august 2005. he did that knowing it's forbidden and all.

Same, he was told, too, that writing on other's user page was NOT a great idea, but still seems he never learns.

Well, I know that person since I've (like many other) had some problems with him on fr: like his horrid tendancy to mix "articles talk page" and "Koenig's personnal blog" and various things. If you're looking for informations about his "good deeds" on fr:, my talk page is wide open. (but since I don't go see en: often, I'd prefer any wanser to be put there)
