231st Street is a renovated elevated station on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of West 231st Street and Broadway in the Bronx, it is served by the 1 train at all times. The single express track that passes through the station is currently unused.
The exterior of the station was extensively renovated in 2003, adding handicapped access. Advertisements in the surrounding Kingsbridge neighborhood used the slogan "Its all under the bridge!", accompanied by a depiction of the new, renovated station.
The 1991 artwork here is called Elevated Nature I-IV, by Wopo Holup. It is also located at four other Broadway–Seventh Avenue stations.
