[edit] Oddworld
They may not necessarily be banned but they are extremely unhelpful...which is detailed in the WP:EL. this is becoming ridiculous. There is either a conflict of interest or just downright irrational stubborness. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 00:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Read this section of WP:EL and then just try to tell me how those links don't fall into this criteria. If all of the information were truly notable, then it should be added into the article, but it's not. Half of the information in the article itself needs to be either removed or shortened and sourced, the latter seeming less likely. Like I said, there isn't a direct ban on fansites, but there are considered inappropriate. You're just interpreting a small part of the WP:EL to support your incorrect viewpoint. This is starting to become disruptive. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 19:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I have already read the section mentioned, and as is clearly stated, they are links normally to be avoided. Before your vendetta on eliminating the external links, there was never a fuss, and the links were happy where they were. The provide a lot more information than the WP Oddworld page could ever dream of. The purpose of Wikipedia is provide both information on a subject as well as provide references to other sources of relevant information. With the exception of OddChat, the other links provide said further information. I can only assume you have some grudge against any or all of the sites listed.
- Forums are normally avoided because the content in the postings is generally unregulated or edited for quality control. In short, there is no guarantee of the accuracy of the information on them. The few times forum links have been allowed is for postings from game developers on official forums owned and operated by the game company.
- You have been asked to provide more information on Talk:Oddworld, but you have not given sufficient reason as to why the links are acceptable in your edit summaries. If you continue these edits, you may end up getting blocked. You are obviously a fan of the game and we don't want this to happen to such an editor. So please, let's discuss this on the talk page instead of edit warring. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC))
If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Oddworld, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
- and you must always:
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. (Guyinblack25 talk 23:37, 7 February 2008 (UTC))
