[edit] Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page or you can type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome!

Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. --Bhadani 15:29, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove the tags in this style - here the editing are free, but you and me are here to build and encyclopedia, and not to dish out POVs, and unsubstantiated information. Kindly arrange to give reference. Thanks. --Bhadani 15:56, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Consider an account

Thanks for your edits, please consider creating an account and picking a good username. Thanks :) --Alf melmac 03:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate your contributions to the Buddhism and science article, but we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Perhaps you would like to rewrite the article in your own words. For more information, take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Happy editing! --digital_me(TalkˑContribs) 23:55, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Mediation"

Before "mediation" is undertaken, it is customary to have a discussion with involved parties on the talkpages of the article. I encourage you to engage there rather than arguing in the edit summaries. See Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. --ScienceApologist 19:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 3RR

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert an article to a previous version more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you. --ScienceApologist 20:07, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you.

--Babub(Talk|Contribs) 12:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I am not sure which edit Babub is referring to, but you should edit less aggressively, beginning now. Also note that while it is true that vāna may mean "forest" in Sanskrit, the compound nirvāna is not derived from this, so please stop adding that. dab () 18:57, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

Please take care that you don't (mabye innocently) delete text from articles. Otherwise I'll have to revert your edits.--Jujordan 18:48, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Describing other traditions as cults...

It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks! Addhoc 17:30, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism and extreme POV

Hinduism and Buddhism share common features. Gautama was a Kshatriya hindu, you seem to be working all too hard on seperating something like the Hinduism-Buddhism parallels. If you do sucseed though, this article won't be worth readin to anyone whose IQ is above 50. Good Day. Freedom skies 22:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Hinduism is the oldest world religion in history and Buddha was a Khstriya Hindu prince, it's a fact you'll have to live with. Hindu funerals different ways which vary from place to place, including bonafide burials in the NE reigon so please don't try and advertise your ignorance to me, I'm already convinced and watching you. I will not allow anymore of your vandalism attempts which tend to dececrate this logbook of knowledge. Good day. Freedom skies 13:57, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

This is your last warning.
The next time you vandalize a page, as you did to Buddhism and Hinduism, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Sfacets 21:59, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

You have been temporarily blocked from editing for vandalism of Wikipedia. Please note that page blanking, addition of random text or spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, and other deliberate attempts to disrupt Wikipedia are considered vandalism. If you wish to make useful contributions, you may come back after the block expires. Luna Santin 23:34, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Why did you block me?

Unfortunately, I don't remember this block in much detail; if you'd asked sooner, I might be able to give you better information. I can only assume it was for posting personal attacks and blanking AN/3RR. However, it does seem that I might have done a better job investigating this block; for what it's worth, I was probably in a hurry, dealing with several things at a time. If you feel unjustly blocked, in the future, feel free to make use of the {{unblock}} template to request unblocking. Luna Santin 16:17, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Christianity and Buddhism

I understand why you don't want to see so much cut away. If you want to go to that article's Talk page and suggest aspects of the old version which can be rewritten more neutrally and then put back, I would be open to that kind of improvement. However, I remain of the opinion that none (or at least almost none) of what was removed is suitable for direct re-incorporation. Needless to say I don't believe a total reversion to the old version is appropriate (and I'll be reverting it back to my version shortly). A.J.A. 06:20, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buddhism template's color scheme

Howdy, there's currently a discussion starting at Template_talk:Buddhism#Template_colors regarding the color scheme you devised for Template:Buddhism back in July of this year. While in general folks appear to like (and to have emulated) your color scheme, there's a question as to whether or not you created the color scheme based on anything specifically dealing with Buddhism (for instance, based on the color of the monastic robes of different sects). Any information or opinion you could share would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 23:18, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your kindness and vote of confidence, as well as your excellent on-going work! Perhaps sometime I'll put out a few sample ideas on the template's talk page for expanding the color scheme you initiated. And, of course, any change you'd like to make to the Category:Disciples of the Buddha table (or any other) is fine with me, especially if it means expanding Mahayana/Vajrayana content (which I am particularly weak on). Thanks again! Best wishes, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 02:39, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
