[edit] To Editors and Wikipedians

This server is indeed a web proxy for Intuit, so it's not easy to trace it back to a specific person. Most likely the majority of problems are someone's kid using a work machine (which is also a problem that we'd be concerned about). A number of folks using this have been been poor internet citizens, and poor representatives of Intuit as well. You have my apologies of course, and I'll see if there's anything to be done about it. Please continue to provide info on the warnings - a simple revert note with no history entry, context or content doesn't help us backtrack to source. Cheers. 208.240.243.170 (talk) 22:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why does it matter if this is a shared IP? Intuit is not a school district

I know we're sensitive to blocking school's IP addresses. Somehow, I think this is different. Intuit is a very well funded company in the IT industry for crying out loud. The people that work there are supposed to be grown-ups. If a colleague gets an IP blocked, they can go talk to the IT department and get something done about that abuse and the abuser.

A school district is fundamentally different -- IT funding and staffing is very limited. The ratio of students to responsible adults may be high. While many secondary school students that would access Wikipedia would usually be responsible (and in fact, some are respected admins here), there are still more immature students than the faculty can supervise properly. At the college level, the supervision is even weaker and the students less accountable.

I don't think admins should hold back any more with this IP than they would for a broadband user at home.

Then there's Intuit spam (see the next section) which is really, really inappropriate. --A. B. (talk) 02:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] June 2008

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Mark Brooks (comics) do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.

The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): rule: '\bmyspace\.com' (link(s): http://www.myspace.com/markbrooksart) . If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thorougly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creators copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! XLinkBot (talk) 16:00, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
