[edit] Those Articles Are Related

Iridescent: I think a brief look at the edit history of that page shows that the articles Axolotl and Mudkip are related; the least that should be done is to link them in the see also section. Perhaps a "Axolotl in Popular Culture" section should be added, but I haven't time or interest. My edit was done at the request of another user who apparently cares. I don't usually edit wikipedia myself as the wiki developers refuse to fix the captcha problems, making me as a blind member unwelcome.

The recent edit you made to Axolotl constitutes vandalism, and has been reverted. Please do not continue to vandalize pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thanks. iridescent 01:51, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

No. Mudskipper to Mudkips, yes - but Axolotl is not related. iridescent 02:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I'll take your word on that, I guess. The original request I was given was to do a revert on the entire article to a much older version with something like 3 entire sections devoted to Mudkips, and several pictures. Some people, apparently, are strongly under the belief that these two things are related. As the older article was in violation of WP style and I didn't want to revert as a blind user who couldn't sanity check the images, I stuck in the see also link instead. I can't make any changes to the Mudskipper article as it's semi-protected, and I can't complete the captcha as I can't see the image. I'll go tell Jeff to do his own bloody edits whenever he gets his IP block sorted out with the admins.
Mudskipper is semi-protected because of this - it's an old, old and very irritating unfunny joke. iridescent 02:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Bah. Apparently, I've been trolled. The IP of the user who originally requested my help in reverting is showing a block for similar nonsense. A google search sent me to Encyclopedia Dramatica, that explained everything (as much as it seems explicable, anyway). My in ability to link to that article even on my own talk page does seem to be a rather extreme over reaction, though. Amusingly, I'm not the only one who can't sign up with Encyclopedia Dramatica; the captcha on that website currently seems to be text reading "Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation of latex, dvips, gs, and convert): 27 - 5 =". At least they're equal access, or non-access, as the case may be. That's more than can be said for wikipedia. 206.126.88.124 (talk) 02:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
If you post to User talk:Jimbo Wales, I'm sure he - or one of the army of admins who watch his page - will create an account on your behalf, if the captchas are causing a problem. (I'd do it myself, but I've never understood how.) For all its many faults, Wikipedia does at least try to be inclusive. iridescent 02:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia is, in this case, not even trying to be inclusive. Many, many open source, accessible audio captchas exist. Wikipedia admins and developers have been asked, repeatedly, to use them. Plugins for the mediawiki engine that create accessible captcha solutions have been written. Wikipedia refuses to use them. Until Wikipedia stops treating me like a third-class user, I will not edit on a regular basis, and thus don't need to worry about accounts. When the captcha becomes accessible, I will begin editing wikipedia once more. I still have an account from the days before captcha. However, I won't use it until other blind folks who didn't sign up before wikipedia put up its giant "no blind editors allowed" sign get the oppertunity to create accounts, as well. The only reason I edited at all tonight is because it looked like a quick, easy change that would take half a minute, and was requested by someone else. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Needless to say, I do not donate to wikipedia, and have no plans to until this is fixed. 206.126.88.124 (talk) 03:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
