Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism and are immediately reverted. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you. If this is an IP address, and it is shared by multiple users, ignore this warning if you did not make any unconstructive edits. (ESkog)(Talk) 17:17, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Please do not make non-consensus changes to masses of pages without raising it on talk pages or WP:MELB first. It has been established repeatedly that Melbourne as defined by both the Victorian Government and the ABS includes the Mornington Peninsula and all attendant districts (I personally disagree with the definition, but it's not my call to make, so I have to go with what the ABS say.) Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. Orderinchaos 12:45, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

This definition is not followed by the Mornington Peninsula Shire, which considers itself to be outside of metropolitain Melbourne. Changes made as definitions were ridiculous, parts of the peninsula that are relatively subarbanised and nearer to Melbourne were described as town in Victoria, whereas others that are little other than farmland and located considerably further from Melbourne were described as suburbs thereof. Even if the A.B.S. declares these places as suburbs of Melbourne for statistical purposes, some other authorities do not and I think common sense would follow the latter interpretation. How can somewhere like Mooroduc, which is just farm land and does not have anything that even resembles a small town let alone a suburb, be described in such a way. In the case of places located further down the peninsula, they are further away from the C.B.D. than Geelong or Ballarat. I truly think that it would be better to follow a more logical interpretation.

The problem is - whose definition do we use? Wikipedia requires us not to conduct original research. The ABS and the Victorian Government agree on this one, just as they do on the ever-controversial boundaries of Perth (which include Bailup and Serpentine but exclude Mandurah which is more suburban than either of the above). This problem has been nutted out before in detail and the decision to go with the ABS [1], Sustainability & Environment (VIC - Melbourne 2030 Plan) [2] and Local Government Victoria [3] definition of metropolitan is basically at the status of consensus. (It should be noted that Shire of Nillumbik etc are also included - yet Little River is not). Orderinchaos 04:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Please refrain from making test edits in Wikipedia articles, such as those you made to Trinity College (University of Melbourne), even if your ultimate intention is to fix them.
