Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to IPv4. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. You also added links to Reverse DNS lookup, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and ping. Erik Warmelink 03:40, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] breaking rules?

hello Erik, sorry it wasn't my intention to bother wikipedia adding a couple of links.

However, I saw a lot of external links added to wikipedia, even for commercial web pages and my intention is only let people to use a free service which I developed myself. It's not a commercial web site, its only purpose is to help webmasters or anyone who need it to be able to make ping, traceroute, smtp and dns testings.

My webpage is only a web based tools web page, and while it says bairestools by its name, it's not intended to be a commercial web site. Said that, I did that webpage because a lot of webpages which was free after a period of time they started charging (note dnsstuff.com, which is listed also in wikipedia).

So I would like to have my web page listed in wikipedia but I would like to be according to the wikipedia guidelines, as I don't like to brake rules.

Please let me know if my link can be included, since I got good feedback from users arriving.

Thanks for your time!

Apologizes for my poor english. Paul —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.216.206.221 (talk) 00:22, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

Your English is better than mine.
Well, as the template which I included says, it is best to discuss the inclusion of external links on the talk page, for example the talk page of ping is named talk:ping. Wikipedia does not want to be just a collection of external links, and often it is hard to decide which external links to include (because if all links were to be included, all articles would be 99.9% links after some text).
It doesn't help to convince me, because other people could also revert your changes. When discussing the addition of links on the talk page of an article, it helps to sign your comment with 4 ~s (like ~~~~). If you do not have a fixed IP-address it may help to create an account, so others can correlate your contributions. Erik Warmelink 10:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
