[edit] Host selection

Countries that lodged interest were Qatar, India and Iran. [3] [4] Qatar officially submitted a bid on June 19, 2007. [5]

India however withdrew their interest in hosting the event, currently leaving Qatar as the only country to have officially launched a bid after Iran's failure to submit proper documentation for their bid on time. [6]

Australia was also considering a late bid.[7]

The host nation was announced on July 29, 2007, during the 2007 AFC Asian Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia. Due to FIFA regulations stating that confederation events can be hosted either in January or July, and July being peak summer heat in the Middle East, it was also announced that the tournament will be held in January of that year.[1][2]

The AFC announced that the host of the Asian Games will be rotated to East Asia for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.[8]
