[edit] When to remove Current Sports Event tag?

The match has just finished; the tag saying this is a current sports event and may change frequently then becomes outdated. How soon after completion is it appropriate to remove such a tag? Do we need to leave a few days for users to post details about the final outcome? Birdbrainscan 15:38, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I would say now. The main point of interest, the race, is decided and over. Any remaining details can be edited as would any other article. To allow a caveat that the race is not over or could change is probably the wrong tack. CompRhetoric 17:30, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I came here looking for the soccer championship, and instead I found that "The 2007 America's Cup was the thirty-second race series of the event"... THE event? What event? Why isn't there a link to the soccer championship, or at least a disambiguation page? and somebody please explain to me why an article with a very bad first phrase be a candidate for featured article?

If you read the article you will find that it is about the America's Cup yacht race. It has nothing to do with the football event. The event that you are looking for is the Copa América and has never been called the America's Cup. The correct translation for the football tournament is America Cup. I'm saying this needs a rephrase. Also, America Cup redirects here, and that's why I ended here. According to the Copa América article, that championship is also called "America Cup", and this one never mentions that as an alternate name. I'm changing the redirect page, and I'm also adding a link to the other page, and finally, I'm rephrasing the first phrase. Oskilian 19:37, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
If you will read the page I have already rephrased the opening paragraph and added links to both the main page for Copa América and to the page for 2007 tournament. There is no 's in the English translation of the football cup that is one of the things that distinguishes it from this much older trophy. MarnetteD | Talk 19:57, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
The America's Cup has been competed for since 1851, before there even was such a thing as Soccer. The America's Cup is the world's oldest sporting trophy still being competed for. GCW50 20:00, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Wow! I find that very interesting! But it doesn't change the fact that the yachting competition is called with an apostrophe and and S, while the soccer one doesn't. That's while I changed the redirection page. Also, what does that have to do with anything? Oskilian 20:58, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
I also forgot to say this. I noticed the links on this page, and I thank you very much for them. What I did change was the redirection page for America Cup which used to link to America's Cup and now links to Copa América. Cheers, and don't take it personally, ok? Oskilian 21:01, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the redirect. I think that between us we covered all of the possible places where this should be clarified. I just finished reading my local Denver paper and they referred to it as the Copa America so it is possible (I haven't looked at a wide range of US papers though) that has become the general way to refer to it even in non Spanish speaking areas.
