This earthquake took place so close off the coast of Pingtung County, Taiwan. It's not really in the Luzon Strait. I propose to move this article to 2006 Pingtung earthquake. Comments anyone ? --PFHLai 17:50, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

ok, I agree. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 17:58, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
How about 2006 South Taiwan earthquake ? Most people outside Taiwan won't know where Pingtung is. --PFHLai 18:10, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
It's being called the Hengchen Earthquake here in Taiwan. I think this should be the title of the article, with redirects for Luzon Strait Earthquake and Pingtung Earthquake. ludahai 魯大海 04:39, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
I pulled no relevant pages with a search on "Luzon Strait Earthquake". Unless someone comes up with relevant links using that name, I will change the name of this page to "2006 Hengchun Earthquake" tomorrow. ludahai 魯大海 09:21, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. I also find no sources that refer to it as the Luzon Strait earthquake. Gzkn 09:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
I thought I moved the page to Hengchun earthquake, but I merely created a redirect. How can I move this page to the lower-case title? ludahai 魯大海 10:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Magnitude

Someone might want to check out and note that the difference in magnitude by agency is caused by the fact that the different agencies are using different scales of magnitude. USGS uses Moment magnitude scale and the Taiwanese weather bureau uses Richter magnitude scale - hence different magnitude recordings. Aelfthrytha 18:02, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] self-reference

Under the Hong Kong section:

Wikipedia, search engines, online messengers like ICQ and MSN Messenger...

Shouldn't we avoid self-references, and take out Wikipedia? --71.138.133.213 20:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

It is not self-reference in the sense referred to in that Wikipedia guideline. That is, that sentence still holds true even if moved to another website or reference work, and Wikipedia is listed as one of several important services cut off by the earthquake. The point is to avoid any assertions that this article is a Wikipedia article. --68.126.201.36 10:09, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
