The 2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will be held in New Zealand from 28 October to 16 November 2008. It will be the officially recognized world championship for women's under-17 national football teams. This will be the first women's world youth championship organized by FIFA with the age limit of 17.

Matches will be played in four New Zealand cities
- Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, will host the final and 3rd place playoff.
- Hamilton, New Zealand will host two of the quarter-finals.
- Wellington, New Zealand's capital city, will host two of the quarter-finals.
- Christchurch, the only host city on the South Island, will host the semi-finals.
Pool matches will be spread evenly among these cities. The host nation, New Zealand, will be based mostly in Auckland but will play one pool match in Wellington.

- From AFC there have qualified the finalists and the third place of the 2007 U-16 Asian Championship: Korea DPR, Japan and Korea Republic.[citation needed]
- From CONMEBOL there have qualified the three best teams from 2008 South American Under 17 Women's Championship: Colombia, Brazil and Paraguay.[1]
- From OFC, New Zealand (qualified as host)
- From UEFA there have qualified the three best teams from 2008 UEFA Under 17 Women's Championship: France, England, Denmark and Germany. [2]
In addition to these teams, five other places will be filled by qualified teams once their respective qualification tournaments have completed.

- Competing in Pool A are Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica, El Salvador and USA
