The 2002 Hockey World Cup for men is the 10th tournament of the Hockey World Cup, held from February 24 to March 9, 2002 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Germany won its first ever Hockey World Cup championship with a 2–1 win over Australia, while the Netherlands defeated Korea 2–1 after extra time to finish third.
In this tournament, the nations participating have been increased to 16 from the previous 12 and each squad can consist of 18 players instead of the normal 16 after the FIH considered the hot and humid conditions in Malaysia.[1]
