2-succinyl-6-hydroxy-2,4-cyclohexadiene-1-carboxylate synthase

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In enzymology, a 2-succinyl-6-hydroxy-2,4-cyclohexadiene-1-carboxylate synthase (EC 2.5.1.64) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

2-oxoglutarate + isochorismate \rightleftharpoons (1S,6R)-6-hydroxy-2-succinylcyclohexa-2,4-diene-1-carboxylate + pyruvate + CO2

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are 2-oxoglutarate and isochorismate, whereas its 3 products are (1S,6R)-6-hydroxy-2-succinylcyclohexa-2,4-diene-1-carboxylate, pyruvate, and CO2.

This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases, specifically those transferring aryl or alkyl groups other than methyl groups. The systematic name of this enzyme class is isochorismate:2-oxoglutarate:cyclodienyltransferase (decarboxylating, pyruvate-forming). Other names in common use include 2-succinyl-6-hydroxy-2,4-cyclohexadiene-1-carboxylate, synthase-alpha-ketoglutarate decarboxylase, 2-succinyl-6-hydroxy-2,4-cyclohexadiene-1-carboxylic acid synthase, 6-hydroxy-2-succinylcyclohexa-2,4-diene-1-carboxylate synthase, SHCHC synthase, 2-oxoglutarate decarboxylase/SHCHC synthase, (1R,6R)-2-succinyl-6-hydroxy-2,4-cyclohexadiene-1-carboxylate, synthase, and MenD. This enzyme participates in ubiquinone biosynthesis.
