2-Pentanone or methyl propyl ketone is a colorless liquid ketone with an odor resembling that of acetone. Its formula is C5H10O. Its boiling point is 102.26°C and its freezing point is -76.8°C (-108°F). It is sometimes used in very small amounts as a flavoring food additive. Two other ketones, 3-pentanone and methyl isopropyl ketone are isomers of 2-pentanone. Its density is 0.809 g/cm³.
2-Pentanone has an approximate molecular weight of 86 grams per mole (g/mol).
