The 1st Battlecruiser Squadron was a Royal Navy squadron of battlecruisers that saw service as part of the Grand Fleet during World War 1.

in August 1914, the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron was attached to the Grand Fleet, and consisted of[1]:

On 15 January 1915, HMS New Zealand was transferred as flagship of the 2nd Battlecruiser Squadron. HMS Indomitable briefly joined the squadron, before transferring to join her sister ships in the 3rd Battlecruiser Squadron. HMS Tiger joined the squadron on completion.

[edit] Battle of Jutland

By 1916, the 1st BCS comprised HMS Queen Mary, HMS Princess Royal, and HMS Tiger, with HMS Lion as Battlecruiser Force flagship[2].

All ships were damaged in the engagement, with HMS Queen Mary exploding, killing all but nine of her 1,266 crew.

[edit] After Jutland

In late 1916, the two Renown class battlecruisers, HMS Renown and HMS Repulse joined the squadron, with HMS Repulse becoming flagship.
