- 623 kilograms of cocaine, 1.5 tonnes of cannabis (presumably marijuana and hashish) and £2.3 million in cash is confiscated in joint efforts between the English Metropolitan Police and National Crime Squad and Colombian police. [1]
- FBI surveillance captures footage of Las Vegas strip club owner Rick Rizzolo, in Chicago, discussing gambling and construction "interests" with Joseph "Joe the Builder" Andriacchi, John "No Nose" DiFronzo, Rudy Fratto, Joseph "Joey the Clown" Lombardo and William Messino. [2]
- Panamanian military commander and drug trafficker Manuel Noriega has his 1992 cocaine trafficking sentence reduced from 40 to 30 years imprisonment.
- The Panamanian government seeks for the extradition of Manuel Noriega to face murder charges for which he was convicted of, in absentia, in 1995. However, Noriega remains imprisoned in the U.S..
- March 18 - Bonanno Family Capo Gerlando Sciascia is shot to death by Patrick Defillipo, another Captain in the Family.
