- June - Metrovision, the only channel broadcast in Klang Valley is launched.
- June - Proton Perdana, Malaysia's first luxury cars is launched.
- 30 June - 20 people were killed in the landslide at Genting Highlands slip road near Karak Highway.
- July - The Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque in Kuala Terengganu is fully constructed. This is the first floating mosque in Malaysia.
- 10 July - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad celebrates his 70th birthday.
- August - Proton Satria hatchback is launched.
- 15 September - 34 people are killed in the plane crash near Tawau Airport in Tawau, Sabah.
- October - Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 (ASW 2020) is launched.
- 19 October - The new federal administrative centre of Putrajaya is established.
