User talk:198.54.202.214

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The funny blue box is basically saying:
IF YOU WANT TO EDIT OR USE WIKIPEDIA WITHOUT GETTING ANNOYING MESSAGES, CREATE AN ACCOUNT.
Now, read the blue box.

Attention:

This IP address, 198.54.202.214, is registered to Telkom SA, an Internet service provider through which numerous individual users may connect to the Internet via proxy. This IP address may be reassigned to a different person when the current user disconnects.

For this reason, a message intended for one person may be received by another. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases, you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism, in which case, please see here.

If you are autoblocked repeatedly, we encourage you to contact your Internet service provider or IT department and ask them to contact Wikimedia's XFF project about enabling X-Forwarded-For HTTP headers on their proxy servers so that our editing blocks will affect only the intended user.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider using a soft block with the template {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Note: In the event of vandalism from this address, abuse reports may be sent to your network administrator for further investigation.
IT staff who want to monitor vandalism from this IP address can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format.

Aquarat and Dynamic or Shared IP Addresses

Greetings

My nick is User:aquarat, I'm a wikipedia user, I just haven't logged on. I had use of the IP address associated with the error/message log below between 00:00 21th of April 2007 and 23:59 21 April 2007 (unless my router reset for some weird reason). In that time I have not caused any damage to any part of Wikipedia, in fact, my only interaction has been reading articles about CRT displays because I wanted to see whether there was some danger in radiation exposure (benefit to using LCD).

For general users : A dynamic (or shared) IP address is an address an ISP generally assigns to machines as they logon to the internet. You are currently using a shared IP address... and there's not much you can do about it... there's not much reason why you'd want to do something about it (unless you want to run a server). The implications of a shared or dynamic IP address are that if someone damages a site using an IP address... and four days later your machine gets that same IP address, the site that was damaged by that IP address may block your machine, even though you haven't done anything.

WIKIPEDIA! It's realllllly bad security practise to allow un-authenticated users to make changes to your site... this is common sense, right ?

Anyway, the rest of the page is a log of all the various messages sent to users operating on this IP address. —The preceding

END OF AQUARAT POST

IF YOU ARE READING THIS, KNOW THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE AND WILL!lol

The IP address you use is dynamic and may have been used by somebody else over whom somebody else may have complained to Wikipedia about. If you did nothing wrong, relax, read all this and smile :). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.242.22.183 (talkcontribs) 09:12, April 9, 2007

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User:Cenobite, you will be blocked from editing. Xiahou 01:34, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User:Cenobite, you will be blocked from editing. Xiahou 01:54, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not vandalizing anything :/ I've never even heard of the articles I've apparently vandalized before now. Why do I keep on getting these warnings? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.243.207.77 (talk • contribs) 08:58, March 28, 2007

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for repeated abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. Geniac 04:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "I haven't edited anything on Wikipedia for over 3 months!"

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

This is the only warning you will receive for your disruptive edits. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did to List of Jewish scientists and philosophers, you will be blocked from editing. --Geniac 18:37, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I also use this IP and I am not a vandal. I will sign in whenever I make a contribution but please make sure that a blanket ban on this IP is not enacted as this will exclude many legitimate South African users from this great resource. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.243.182.28 (talkcontribs) 18:42, April 1, 2007

Err, yes I also have never edited all those pages you are mentionning in your blocking warnings, is there something weird going on here? I do not keep one single IP address, but every time i connect i get assigned a new IP address. Are you tracking users by user login or by IP address? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bherisson (talkcontribs) 09:02, April 2, 2007

South African ISP IPs don't stay constant, as we're a 3rd world country. Banning this IP will only disrupt service temporarily for users assigned that IP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.242.62.43 (talkcontribs) 09:17, April 2, 2007

lol, u ppl hav something wrong, just live with it fuckers, and stfu!!!

Omg noobs, we don't have fixed ip addresses. You can't ban by ip. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.240.9.134 (talkcontribs) 17:19, April 2, 2007

Request reason: "Just to add my comment (another user seeing this message) - I've never edited Wikipedia, and don't even have an account. Due to the limited IP block assigned to South Africa, pretty much everyone has a dynamic IP address, assigned per connection. We experience these problems with any service that controls things via IP addresses; eg. download services, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.241.92.69 (talkcontribs) 14:09, April 3, 2007"

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
