[edit] Protrails spam
Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.--CapitalR 18:08, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] linkspam
Please read WP:EL and WP:SPAM. Your persistent addition of spam to many pages violates Wikipedia policy; it will always be reverted. Cheers Geologyguy 18:09, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi Geologyguy. With all due repect, our links are entirely within the Wiki guildelines for external links, which I just reviewed. I alerted the National Park Service, whom we work with closely and the were not happy about this. Please re-consider the block. Our link are direct links to the corresponding National Parks for which we have trail guides and are clearly not spam. I understand you must get lots of spam...but in this case, you are receiving high quality links whose content has been reviewed and approved by the NPS. Regards, Dave
- Dave, your IP address is associated with several questionable edits from last week such as these which deletes the external link to the official RMNP website, deletes access to commons media, deletes proper Petrified Forest National Park links, etc. Beginning at the same time are edits such as this which adds external links persistently and without a explanatory comment (in the "Edit summary" box, nor on the article's talk page) to several articles. That kind of history is identical to a vandal or—more precisely—a spamdal. A little explanation goes a long ways. —EncMstr 17:32, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Wow, thank you so much for the explanation! I really appreciate that. So it is an explanation in the Edit Summary I should place something? You're right, a little explanation does go a long way! For example, if I add an External Link, how do you think I should exaplin it in the Edit Summary box? Thanks again. - Dave
P.S. if I deleted any offical link, it was clearly a mistake on my part. Thanks!
- If I were you, I would create an account. It has more credibility than a anonymous IP address, and you can build a reputation regardless of where you edit from. There are several other advantages, like having a personal watchlist so you can track edits made on articles you care about, being able to edit semi-protected articles, create new articles, and upload media.
- To answer your question, something like "added external link to the park's official guide service" or whatever. Note that some articles now need a consensus to be reached on the talk page for each external link added, and I suspect there will be a trend for more of that. To be highly proactive and friendly, I'd recommend that. If no one responds in like 3-5 days, then go ahead and add your link. —EncMstr 18:03, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

- Since Dave is connected with the site, please read WP:COI - it's inappropriate for you to add these links, even if they are appropriate. In my opinion there are dozens of such sites that could be linked, but WP is not a link farm, and there is no reason that this site should be here as if it is on a par with the official park sites. I personally don't think there is enough justification that can be put in an edit summary to justify links like this. You could discuss it on the talk pages of the individual articles and see what those who frequent those articles say - but adding the links to a dozen or more articles, repeatedly, is most definitely spam. Cheers Geologyguy 18:16, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks EncMstr! I really appreciate the help. I actually think I'll back off from Wiki for now for some recently discovered reasons. It is a shame as our site includes tons of information not given by Wiki or the NPS (the reason the NPS uses our data and photographs). With respect to Geologyguy, it sounds like your Wiki-induced hubris is interfering with reason and logic! ;) I understand you wanting to be protective, but I just found out from the NPS that they don't even know who edits their page (it is certainly NOT an official NPS page, nor are any NPS-oriented Wiki pages). The NPS Wiki pages are not sanctined by the NPS, and we'd therefore prefer to shy away from it ourselves at their recommendation. I was under the flase impression that the NPS pages were being monitored by someone at the NPS, and not someone random. Scary actually! Have a great day and again, your feedback is invaluable EncMstr! I'm out! :)
[edit] vandalism
Your removal of appropriate site links (such as official NP sites) is vandalism... Just so you know... Cheers Geologyguy 18:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Rocky Mountain National Park, you will be blocked from editing. —EncMstr 18:57, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Last warning
Please read the messages above, and the policies on external links, advertising, and conflict of interest. Even after you've been advised not to, you've continued to re-add these links. Please discuss here, or on an article's talk page, before re-adding these links any more, or you'll be blocked:
This is your last warning.
The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Rocky Mountain National Park, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing anyone from linking to them from any site that uses the MediaWiki spam blacklist, which includes all of Wikimedia and Wikipedia. --barneca (talk) 18:30, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
