1989 Masters Snooker

The 1989 Benson and Hedges Masters took place between January 21 and January 29, 1989 at London's Wembley Conference Centre.

16 players took part (which in 1990, 2 Wild Card entries would be introduced) At the first attempt now that he had joined the Top 16, Stephen Hendry beat John Parrott 9-6 to win the first of five titles in a row

The tournament was also rocked by scandal when the first round match between Silvino Francisco and Terry Griffiths After Griffiths beat Francisco 5-1, it was discovered that there had been heavy betting on that exact score. Both players were questioned. Francisco was later arrested, but later released without charge.
