  • December 3, 1988: Jesse Orosco signed as a Free Agent with the Cleveland Indians.
  • December 5, 1988: Bud Black signed as a Free Agent with the Cleveland Indians. [1]
  • March 25, 1989: Felix Fermin was sent by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Cleveland Indians to complete an earlier deal made on November 28, 1988. The Pittsburgh Pirates sent a player to be named later and Denny Gonzalez to the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named later. The Cleveland Indians sent Jay Bell (March 25, 1989) to the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete the trade.
