The aspect of the St. Louis Blues season was that they finished third in the Norris Division regular-season standings. The Blues participated in the NHL Playoffs, beating the Minnesota North Stars in the Norris Division Semifinals, three games to two, followed by a 4–3 series win over the Toronto Maple Leafs to take the Norris Division title, before losing to the Calgary Flames in a seven-game Campbell Conference Finals. In game six of that Campbell Conference Final, the Blues won in overtime, 6–5, in the game that is known to Blues' fans as "The Monday Night Miracle".
