The 1981 Canadian Cup Season began February 17 and ended April 31. Vachie Walker of the #50 Broadway Motors Chevrolet for Scotty Herman Motorsports won the championship.

The 2nd annual Thunder Bay 500 was held on February 17 at Thunder Bay International Speedway. The #15 Umuzäki Sushumiá won the pole.
