[edit] Drivers Championship

Points were awarded 4-3-2-1 based on the top four race positions. Additionally the top six placings in each of the two classes (based on engine capacity, under and over 3000cc) were awarded points based on 9-6-4-3-2-1. The pointscore system allowed a driver to drop his worst result. Colin Bond, driving an under 3 litre Ford Capri took seven class wins in the first seven rounds leaving a perfect score of 63 points, as he could not score additional points, did not race at the final round. With Dick Johnson and Peter Brock, only twice not taking the top two positions (Johnson was third at Calder, and Brock did not finish at Sandown), were able to use first four points to finish ahead of Bond. Most years however, Bond would have become champion.
