[edit] Play-off Match-ups

Can someone please explain why the Buffalo Bills, who qualified as the wildcard team, were matched against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the opening round and not the Oakland Raiders who had the best conference record, leaving the two best teams in the conference (Raiders and Dolphins) to play each other. 74.113.196.37 04:16, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

During that period, there was no seeding system in which the team with the best record had home-field advantage. Prior to 1975, a predetermined post-season schedule was designed in which the home teams were rotated based on divisions, regardless of winning percentage.[1]
Looks like you did not notice the disclaimer note at the bottom of the playoff bracket that says, "Prior to the 1975 season, the home teams in the playoffs were decided based on a yearly rotation." Therefore, I should move it higher. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:43, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I see how home field was predetermined on a 3-year rotating method, but what were the rules as to which first-placed team matched up against the wild card team? Juveboy 03:58, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
