The 1979 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Hockey Tournament involved in playing single-elimination play to determine the national championship of NCAA Division 1 . The tournament began on March 18,1979. The semifinals began on March 22,1979 and March 23,1979. The National Championship Game was March 24,1979. A total of 4 games were played at Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Michigan. Also, Minnesota won their second national championship over North Dakota.
