The funny blue box is basically saying:
IF YOU WANT TO EDIT OR USE WIKIPEDIA WITHOUT GETTING ANNOYING MESSAGES, CREATE AN ACCOUNT.
Now, read the blue box.
This IP address, 196.25.255.214, is registered to South African Internet Exchange, an Internet service provider through which numerous individual users may connect to the Internet via proxy. This IP address may be reassigned to a different person when the current user disconnects.
For this reason, a message intended for one person may be received by another. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases, you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism, in which case, please see here.
If you are autoblocked repeatedly, we encourage you to contact your Internet service provider or IT department and ask them to contact Wikimedia's XFF project about enabling X-Forwarded-For HTTP headers on their proxy servers so that our editing blocks will affect only the intended user.
Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider using a soft block with the template {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.
Note: In the event of vandalism from this address, abuse reports may be sent to your network administrator for further investigation. |
Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to Cat intelligence. Readers looking for serious articles will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, try the sandbox, where you can write whatever you want. You might also want to check out Uncyclopedia. Nivix 23:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I think this IP address has been blocked. I'm unable to make any (constructive) edits to any articles. Grr! I hate when trolls use transparent proxies and get the rest of us (legitimate) users blocked.
No personal attacks -
This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User:Cenobite, you will be blocked from editing. Xiahou 01:16, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

A quick note. This ip is shared by many south african internet users. Your adressing system is wrong. The function you use to retrieve the ip does not work, as it will get a set of two ips for many south african users. Your function only picks up the first one, which is shared by many people, while the second one is unique to each person. Please recheck your code. As a side note, the ip you receive should be in the format of "196.25.255.214, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" where the last one is the actualy ip.
Comment: I have never edited this page but arrived here by chance. My IP address changes all the time as I make use of ADSL and the IP address rotates in South Africa with this type of Internet access. In other words I get a different IP address assigned to me each time I switch on my PC. It appears to me that your IP logging will not work as the IP address is not constant as it would be with a fixed IP. Suffice to say I am not the culprit.
So why not work under an account and avoid this problem?? Slofstra 15:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Comment: I am another user from South Africa who uses Telkom as an ISP. I have never made malicious comments or unconstructive edits. The page I was trying to view was an article on surveillance. Ironic that the remedy to South African Wikipedia browsers is to register.
Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, are considered vandalism and are immediately reverted. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you. - Peripitus (Talk) 12:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to the Battery (electricity) page. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you.

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
