"Lolich had to go on two days' rest in the deciding seventh game because 31-game winner Denny McLain had proven simply ineffective in the postseason." The facts don't support this. McLain started (and won) Game Six, also on two days' rest, so he clearly would not start Game Seven. I have not reviewed other sources, but I would speculate that Detroit made the decision to pitch McLain on two days' rest for Game Six because, even though he was 0-2, that was against Gibson, and he would be a better risk on two days' rest in a do-or-die game than their third starter, Earl Wilson. Having won Game Six, again it might have seemed a better risk to use that strategy again, and use Lolich, who had been very effective, on two days' rest, rather than Wilson.
