Image:1969 draft lottery photo.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Congressman Alexander Pirnie (R-NY) drawing the first capsule for the Selective Service draft, Dec 1, 1969. This image was copied from [1], which credits the photo to "Selective Service System". I'm tentatively assuming that since the photo was created by a federal agency, it cannot by copyrighted. I'm going to post a message on copyvio to get clarification before I link an article to the image. Wile E. Heresiarch 17:54, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Here is the discussion from copyvio. As noted below I've linked to this image from draft lottery (1969). Wile E. Heresiarch 15:55, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • I'd like to put Image:1969 draft lottery photo.jpg in an article. I copied it from [11] which credits the photo to "Selective Service System". Since SS is a federal agency, I'm assuming that it cannot be copyrighted. However, before I put it in an article I'd like to get other peoples comments. OK to use this image or not? If not, I'll just get it erased. Thanks for your help, Wile E. Heresiarch 18:03, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • You are correct. The Selective Service System does not have copyright for their photos. - Tεxτurε 18:23, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
      • OK, thanks for your comment. I have gone ahead and linked draft lottery (1969) to the image. I believe WP is on firm ground here. Wile E. Heresiarch 15:52, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)
