This is a photo my grandmother took in 1965 of the Eagle supermarket and the former Sears building on South Locust street in Dubuque, Iowa during the 1965 floods. The Eagle Food Centers store is in the lower left hand corner of the photo, the Sears store is just right and up from the Eagle store. During the flood, both buildings were partially underwater.
Both Sears and Eagles operated at the The Eagle's store would continue to operate at that South Locusts location until the early 1990's. Sears moved out west to Kennedy Mall. Eagle's demolished the old Sears building, and built a new supermarket building in its place. It then moved one block south into the new building, and would operate there until the company was dissolved in 2003. Since then, the old building in this photograph had at one time been an office supply store, as well as an office furniture store.
