[edit] Westminster Committe on Iran

Hi, I wonder if I can help you uncover some of the mysteries of Wikipedia, which hopefully will help to clear some of this up... In Wikipedia

there are editors/people who edit and they have usernames/userpages
there are pages on various topics and these have pagenames

I think you are confused by the two. You signed yourself up as User:Westminster Committee on Iran, and this is not allowed here, as Laralove pointed out. You can chose any username you like for yourself, but not a rude one or one that is the name of an organization/company and a few other things. You will appreciate that one reason this is a good rule is because otherwise anyone could sign themselves up as Westminster Committee on Iran and then edit in a way that could bring disrepute on the organization, though there are other reasons too.

If the Westminster Committee on Iran is a notable organization with several independent sources about it then you can make an encyclopedia page about it. Well, you could, though given that you are involved with the organization, it would be as well to look into the conflict of interest guidelines first.

You have applied for arbitration about the matter. As an neutral observer, I can confirm that Laralove has behaved appropriately here. Also request for arbitration is the final step in dispute resolution here and so your issue will almost certainly not be accepted. But I would be happy to help you out in any way, I can. I would suggest the first stage is to choose a new username and then we can look at whether the committee meets the grade for an encyclopedia entry here. Drop me a line here or on my userpage. Hi. Sorry for the delayed response. I missed your reply on my talk page. I've been a little out of it lately. User pages are meant to belong to users, individuals, not groups. They're also meant to display information regarding the user's Wikipedia activities and such. They are not for displaying off-Wiki information such as you had done. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. If you would like this article to be created, let me know and I can give you some info on how to get that started. LaraLove 06:47, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
