1957 Masters Tournament

The 1957 Masters Tournament was contested from April 4 to April 7 at Augusta National Golf Club. It was the 21st Masters Tournament. This was the first Masters Tournament played with a cut. 101 players started in the tournament and 40 of them made the cut at six-over-par (150).
Doug Ford was three strokes behind Sam Snead on Sunday and he ended up winning the Masters by three strokes. During the final round Ford holed out from the bunker for birdie at the 18th hole.
This would be the first Masters Tournament which Gary Player participated in. He finished tied for 24th. He won three Masters later in his career. The 5-time Open Championship winner Peter Thomson finished 5th which would be his best finish in the Masters in his career.
