[edit] Season summary
Mercedes had withdrawn, so Fangio joined Ferrari team, which had been given the Lancia D50 cars when that team withdrew for financial reasons. The main challenge to Fangio came from Moss at Maserati, and from his team mate Collins, although the British Connaughts, Vanwalls and BRMs showed some signs of promise. Moss and Collins each won two races, but Fangio's shared victory with Musso in Argentina made all the difference.
