- May 10, the Federal Court, headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Munir, declared the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly as justified on the principle of state necessity.
- June 21, A new Constituent Assembly, elected, held its first meeting in Murree on * July 7. The Muslim League, which had a majority in the first Constituent Assembly, had suffered a set-back and it had only 25 members in the second assembly.
- August, Muhammad Ali Bogra resigned and another bureaucrat, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, was installed as Prime Minister.
- October, Major General Iskander Mirza becomes Governor General following the resignation of Ghulam Muhammad because of health reasons.
- October 14, the four provinces of West Pakistan merged into One Unit, causing resentment among the smaller provinces. At the same time East Bengal province adopts the name East Pakistan and officially becomes an Integral part of the nation which the governs One Unit Policy but a separate electorate was given to Dacca based-government.
