The 1955 edition to the Sugar Bowl featured the 5th ranked Navy Midshipmen and the 6th ranked Ole Miss Rebels.
Running back Joe Gattuso scored on a 3 yard touchdown run as Navy took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter had no scoring. In the third quarter, Navy quarterback George Welsh threw a 16 yard touchdown pass to halfback Jack Weaver, as Navy took command with a 14-0 lead. Gattuso scored on a 1 yard touchdown run, his second of the game, as Navy built a 21-0 lead. With no more scoring, Navy held on to win.
Because he had two rushing touchdowns, Joe Gattuso was named Sugar Bowl MVP.
