• This race holds the unusual distinction of being the hottest race ever for a Formula One event, 104°F (about 40°C). This record has since been tied twice, at the 1984 United States Grand Prix in Dallas and the 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix.
• The extreme heat led to scoring nightmare of 16 driver substitutions. Only Juan Manuel Fangio and Roberto Mieres finished the race without a relief driver.
