The 1953 Tour de France was the 40th Tour de France, taking place July 3 to July 27, 1953. The total race distance was 22 stages over 4479 km, with riders averaging 34.593 km/h.

Forty years after the first maillot jaune, the 1953 Tour featured the introduction of the maillot vert, the green "sprinter's" jersey. The classification was based on a points system not unlike the King of the Mountains classification.
