Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my Talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. RJaguar3 | u | t 00:39, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cathedral

Thanks for the inclusion of the Cathedral from Reykjavík. I have made it work.

The problem:-

Every image is identified by a file name. When you copy the image from its pictorial source, Wiki Commons, usually, you must copy the file name exactly. If you change so much as one dot, then it will not work! In other words, you cannot put square brackets around the name of the building in its file name, because then, you have changed the file name, and it can no longer find its source.

It is easy to tell where the filename ends, it says "jpg" or "bmp". After that, you type a line | like that, and then you write the name that you want to appear as the title. If you put square brackets around the words in the title, they will link to a page.

I have put the picture underneath. It is not part of a gallery, so it has square brackets around the whole image and title. Notice after:- jpg|thumb|title.

The word "thumb" makes the picture a thumbnail, so it is not too large, and there is space for the title. If you leave the word "thumb" out, it will take over the whole page.

You can see exactly how I have done this, by clicking on "edit page". You can do two more things

  • Move the picture to the left by typing |left| after "thumb".
  • Make the picture bigger by typing a size |250px| after the word "thumb".
