  • 12 March - The South African Indian Congress (SAIC) delegation is received by the Viceroy, Lord Wavell, in Delhi, India, submitting a petition drafted in consultation with Mohandas Gandhi.
    • The Indian Representative Act is also repealed.
    • India terminates the trade agreement with South Africa
  • 15 March - The Asiatic Land Tenure Act or the Ghetto Act is amended and now states that Indians may only live where Indians had resided in non-proclaimed areas
  • 31 March - 6,000 Indians march in protest to the Asiatic Land Tenure Act in Durban
