Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions.

Currently, you are editing without a username. You can continue to do so, as you are not required to log in to Wikipedia to read and edit articles; however, logging in will result in a username being shown instead of your IP address (yours is 193.140.214.72). Logging in does not require any personal details. There are many other benefits for logging in to Wikipedia. For now, if you are stuck, you can type {{helpme}} on this page and an experienced Wikipedian will be around to answer any questions you may have.

Please note these points:

  • Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as: copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Both adding such unreasonable information and editing articles maliciously are considered vandalism.

The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, ask me on [[User_talk:{{{1}}}|my Talk page]] – I will answer your questions as far as I can! Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia.

[edit] Some wiki tips for better editing

I've been fixing some edits at Talk:Baklava by an editor using this IP address, so I thought I might provide a few wiki editing tips:

  • Always sign your talk-page postings with four tildes (~~~~). The wiki editor automatically converts them into a properly linked username or IP address signature with a timestamp.
  • Please use the "+" (post a comment) tab, just to the right of the "edit this page" tab, to create a new topic on a talk page. This not only provides a convenient headline input box, but also places the new posting at the bottom of the page, so that chronological order is preserved. (Adding a new topic to the top of the page can be considered a rude attempt to gain undue attention.)
  • If you are trying to present arguments about a topic (as you appear to have been trying to do with your "Google trends" posting), you should post it to the existing topic, indented (using colons (:) for indentation) to offset your post from the previous one. You should also state what you are trying to say, rather than just add a bare URL, if you wish to convince the readers of your point. You should not create a new topic just for this information. Many folks only read the topics they are interested in, so the ones who are involved in the related topic may not bother to check a bare link in a new topic without an explanation of its purpose.

I hope you find this information useful. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 17:32, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
