- Queen Salote joins the Wesleyan Church, and the Free Church of Tonga ceases to be the official national religion. [1]
- Tonga national rugby union team plays its first Rugby test match, defeating Fiji at the capital Nukuʻalofa. [2]
- Visited by explorer Rollo Beck in July/August. Of Nukuʻalofa he observes "Tapa making and mat weaving are principal occupations of the women while the men do most of the field work" [3]
- Methodist missionary A. Harold Wood comes to Tonga and becomes principal of Tupou College.
