- Originally scheduled for September, postponed due to America's Cup yacht races.
- All 36 holes were played in one day.
- Rawlins used a gutta percha ball.
- Rawlins received a $50 gold medal.

- This was the first 4-round open. Also the first open to be played over two days.
- Myopia Hunt Club was a nine hole course so players went around the course eight times.
- Herd was the club professional at Washington Park Golf Club in Chicago. He came from The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in Scotland.
- Herd's brother is 1902 British Open champion Sandy Herd.
