- October 27 - A sailing ship, the Earl of Chester, is wrecked off Rhosneigr, Anglesey, with the loss of 14 lives.
- November 8 - 178 miners are killed in an accident at Ferndale Colliery, Rhondda.
- John Graham Chambers revises the Marquess of Queensberry rules.
- Celtic Congress held at Brieuc in Brittany.
- The Mawddach rail bridge opens and Barmouth is linked to the rail network for the first time.
- Amlwch is linked to the rail network for the first time.
