- 29 June - Benjamin Hall, 1st Baron Llanover, is raised to the peerage.
- 25 October - St Brynach's Church, Cwm yr Eglwys, is destroyed by a storm (the Royal Charter Storm.
- 26 October - The clipper Royal Charter is wrecked off the Anglesey coast, with the estimated loss of 483 lives. It is the greatest loss of life in any known maritime accident in Welsh waters.
