- January 14 - All 13 members of the Point of Ayr lifeboat crew are drowned when it capsizes off Rhyl.
- April 1 - Publication of the controversial government report on education in Wales (the "Blue Books")
- April 8 - John Jones (Shoni Sguborfawr) is transported to Tasmania for his involvement in the Rebecca riots.

- Sir Thomas Frankland Lewis becomes MP for Radnor Boroughs.
