- 13 March - Ballinglass Incident: eviction of 300 tenants at the village of Ballinglass during the Irish Potato famine.
- Crumlin Road (HM Prison) in Belfast is opened with the arrival of the first inmates, who were forced to walk from Carrickfergus Prison in chains.
